Bush hammered

This manufacture leaves the surface of the stone slightly ridged, and such texture can be more or less pronounced. For its non-skid feature this finish is perfect for outer coverings and floors.
It can be handmade or manufactured by modern machinery.

Traditionally, skilful craftsmen created the bush hammered finish by means of a special hand-held hammer, called “bocciarda”, with a grind of pyramidal steel points at the end of a large metal slug. This handmade manufacture is very expensive because it requires excellent craftsmanship. Thus only a small amount work can be carried out daily.

Today the old hammer has been replaced by more sophisticated and efficient stone bush hammer machines providing a high quality product in less time.
